Diabetes Education Survey

North East Lincolnshire CCG is currently looking at ways to improve education for those with Type 2 diabetes and would like to gain your views.

There is further information below and a short survey is now available online for people who have Type 2 diabetes or for those who have a family member or friend with Type 2 diabetes.

Background information

Currently in North East Lincolnshire, if you are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes you will be offered the opportunity to attend an education programme called “DESMOND”. At the moment this is open to those up to 1 year after they are diagnosed.

We are exploring the option to offer diabetes education for all those with type 2 diabetes, not just those who are newly diagnosed.

What would this mean?

This would increase availability for anyone with type 2 diabetes, no matter how long ago they were diagnosed and for those who were offered at the time they were diagnosed but declined, to be able to attend education to help them to understand their condition better and more importantly what they can do to help manage their condition. The course provided also allows each attendee to bring along someone else with them (e.g. a family member or friend) so they can also learn about diabetes. Feedback from those who currently attend is very good.

We are also looking at the option to introduce “lay educators” who would support the health professionals to deliver the courses. Lay educators would be fully trained, in a similar way to the health professionals and would be assessed to ensure they meet the training requirements.  This has been done in other areas and has been beneficial.

This survey will close on Friday 6th January 2017.
