Eye patients in North East Lincolnshire are to benefit from an additional service to help reduce waiting times for diagnosis and treatment.
NHS North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has commissioned specialist eye health providers Newmedica to offer a range of treatments from the Cromwell Road Primary Health Centre.
The service begins in April and will include Cataract Surgery, treatment for Glaucoma and procedures such as Oculoplastics & Lacrimal, YAG Laser Capsulotomy & Peripheral Iridotomy and Medical Retina (excluding AMD) services.
This is an additional service to support existing services provided by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and St Hugh’s Hospital.
Sarah Dawson, Service Project Lead for North East Lincolnshire CCG explained that this is part of the CCG’s detailed plans to reduce the long length of time that people are currently having to wait for their first appointments and outpatient follow ups in some specialist areas such as Ophthalmology.
Newmedica is an experienced provider to the NHS both locally and nationally, and is committed to providing the very best outcomes to North East Lincolnshire patients.
The service, which includes both diagnostics and treatment where appropriate, is led by a consultant. Patients can expect their first appointment within four weeks as standard after being referred by their GP.
