New Carers’ Support Service launches in North East Lincolnshire - Planning makes Perfect!
A year of planning by the North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has secured an experienced and respected provider to deliver Carers’ Services in North East Lincolnshire. The charity – North Lincolnshire Carers’ Support Centre - has been supporting carers in Northern Lincolnshire for around 25 years, and from 1st April 2014, extends its expertise to North East Lincolnshire.
In the year preceding the launch of the Carers’ Support Service, the CCG created a new service vision for circulation and comment amongst carers and professionals, and recruited a project group to support the tender process.
The group comprised local carers, and staff from the CCG and North East Lincolnshire Council. The group developed tender paperwork, evaluated and shortlisted bids, and interviewed prospective service providers. Carers and professionals participated in the process on an equal footing, but carers’ views were particularly significant in awarding an overall mark to select the new provider.
The innovative level of carer involvement in the tendering process resulted in the CCG being shortlisted for a public procurement award. The year’s careful planning which resulted in the award nomination, has secured an authoritative new provider, approved of by both professionals and carers, which promises to deliver a service genuinely shaped by, and for, carers.
