New NHS service for treatment of skin conditions
Advice and treatment for dermatological conditions in North East Lincolnshire are to be provided by Virgin Care from 1st April.
Virgin Care will be offering a range of dermatology services for people in the area referred for treatment by their GP. This includes consultation, advice and treatment from specialists on skin complaints such as moderate-severe psoriasis and allergic contact dermatitis.
This new NHS funded service from Virgin Care has been jointly commissioned by both NHS North East Lincolnshire & NHS North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).
Virgin Care has been providing a dermatology service in North Lincolnshire since 2012, and the service already sees patients within 14 days from the referral being made by a GP and the aim of the new service is to reduce the current waiting times experienced by patients in North East Lincolnshire as well as providing an opportunity to use new technology to improve service delivery and outcomes.
Heather Morris, Virgin Care’s regional manager for the service, said: “We have been providing the North Lincolnshire service very successfully for many years, keeping waiting times low and delivering improvements so we’re very pleased to be able to bring that same level of service and innovation so that people in North East Lincolnshire can also feel the difference.”
Patients will be offered to receive their care from the new service provider and treatment will continue to be provided at the current dermatology service location at Cromwell Road Primary Care Centre, in Grimsby. Appointments will be offered to patients following the transfer of information from the hospital Trust to Virgin Care.
Pauline Bamgbala, Service Lead for Planned Care for the North East Lincolnshire CCG, explained, “As part of the transfer of service from the old provider to the new, we are working closely with the Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Virgin Care to ensure a smooth transfer of the service. Patients currently receiving a service from NLaG will have their care transferred to the new provider.”
For patients currently using the dermatology service Virgin Care have provided some frequently asked questions (FAQs) to provide answers on the new service and the potential affect this will have for patient care. Please see Dermatology Services FAQs for more answers to your questions.
