A new community for Grimsby – as extra care housing development is completed at Burchester Court

Living Plus, which is part of the Places for People Group, working in partnership with North East Lincolnshire CCG and North East Lincolnshire Council, has completed work on a new extra care development in Grimsby, bringing an independent living option to the town for people who have care and support needs, or those who may need them in the future.

60 new apartments have been created in the development at Winchester Avenue on the Nunsthorpe Estate, bringing a new architectural standard to the area. A number of the homes have already been reserved, with the remaining homes now available to rent by eligible local people.

The building will offer 24-hour onsite care, the Garden City café, a hair and beauty salon as well as lounges and gardens. It is also in close proximity to Centre 4 – a much loved community hub.

Andy Lomas, Managing Director of Living Plus said: “We are delighted to complete this building – the foundations for a new community hub here in Grimsby, which is raising the design bar, with a fantastic collection of new homes for people who need them. The building will offer excellent services to our customers, enabling them to feel included, supported and helping to tackle loneliness as well as ensuring they feel part of a community.”

“These Extra Care apartments are ideal for those who wish to be independent, with their own front door and privacy, yet with the knowledge that they can be supported in their own home when necessary.”

Living Plus is part of the Places for People Group, which owns or manages more than 209,000 homes across the UK. Burchester Court is the company’s first development in Grimsby.

Continued Andy “The much-anticipated completion of Burchester Court is fantastic news for the local community, particularly those who are looking for a home with optional care facilities, and have the desire to continue living independently.

“This is a place in which people maintain their own home, with real choices and amenities that make the local community a great place to be.”

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adult social care at North East Lincolnshire Council, added: “I’m really pleased to see Burchester Court is now complete and ready to welcome local people to their new home, that will enable them to live both independently and securely by providing on-site care and support for their care needs.

“A person’s health and mobility should not get in the way of them living comfortably and well, so I’m delighted that residents in North East Lincolnshire are to benefit from this much needed extra care housing. Thanks to all those involved for their hard work and continued effort in building the apartments during the current restrictions and challenges faced.”

The final homes on offer at Burchester Court comprise one and two bed apartments, each with accessible and open plan living space and substantial bedrooms. Each apartment boasts a private front door, a contemporary kitchen, a stylish bathroom wet floor with decorative level access shower area and a full height window in the main living area which forms the ‘heart’ of the apartment – ideal for connecting with family and friends. In the communal areas there is space to dine with friends, undertake group activity or simply to watch TV with neighbours.

The development process has greatly benefitted Grimsby, bringing new homes and creating jobs; 26 local people were employed as part of the construction of the building – eight of them achieving formal qualifications during that construction process and five of them aged 18-24. Places for People partnered with Morgan Sindall Later Living and Esh Construction, who have constructed the site, alongside NHS North East Lincolnshire CCG and Homes England.
