The NHS in North East Lincolnshire is inviting people aged 65 and over to log on to the national booking service website and arrange to have their COVID-19 vaccination at a local community pharmacy or nearby vaccination centre.
Two more pharmacies are to offer the vaccination in North East Lincolnshire from the middle of this week. This will mean people 65 and over will be able to book vaccinations at Birkwood Pharmacy on Westward Ho, Cottingham Pharmacy on Wellington Street and Drugs4Delivery at the Acorn Business Park off Moss Road using the national booking service at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination. Those who cannot do it online can call a free 119 number, anytime between 7am and 11pm seven days a week. The system allows patients to pick a convenient location and time. The phone line can get very busy, so please try to ring later in the day if you can’t get through straight away. British Sign Language, text relay and interpreter services are available. If you can’t book any slots in your preferred location, please try again later, when more appointments are added to the system.
Alternatively, if these sites are not convenient, over 65s can choose to have their vaccination at their local GP-led vaccination services. No one will be missed and local practices will be in touch at the appropriate time with those people who have not booked an appointment.
Dr Ekta Elston, local GP and Medical Director of NHS North East Lincolnshire CCG, said: “I urge all over 65s who have received an invitation letter to book their appointment as soon as they’re contacted. It is essential that they protect themselves and others from the virus.
“Appointments are staggered to allow for social distancing and minimal waiting time. On the day, volunteer marshals will greet and guide you through the process and help you if you have any questions. We just ask that you don’t turn up too early for your appointment to avoid creating queues.
“This vaccination programme is the biggest in our history. While it will take some time to offer the vaccine to all eligible people, we are pleased that we are moving swiftly through cohorts identified by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation and are now able to invite over 65s to book their jabs.”
