Looking After “Future Me”

None of us knows what the future holds but there may come a time when we might need help making important decisions or even need someone to make those decisions for us.

If you don’t like the idea of strangers deciding what is right for you, you can appoint someone who knows you well and is a lot more likely to understand what you would want. This is called a Lasting Power of Attorney or LPA for short.

LPAs can be created online or by filling in forms yourself or you can arrange for a legal representative to do this for you.

You can find out more by visiting www.northeastlincolnshireccg.nhs.uk/futureme/.

NHS North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group is running a series of free public events throughout January aimed at encouraging people to think about how they can safeguard “Future Me” and make sure important decisions are taken by someone of their choosing.

People will be able to listen to a talk to help them understand more about appointing an attorney or acting as an attorney (or as a deputy) and ask any questions face to face.

There will be representatives from local legal firms attending, and participating firms will be offering people who attend the sessions a 10% discount on Wills and LPAs until 31st March 2018. The participating firms are: Bates and Mountain, Bridge McFarland, Pepperells and Wilkin Chapman

The events are in two parts and are aimed at:

  • People who are interested in finding out how to set up an LPA (Part 1)
  • People who have been given this important role by a friend or relative (or have been appointed to a similar role by a Court) and would like to understand more about it (Part 2).
